THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: THE STERN AND THE STRONG

Episode 72: Mind over Antimatter, Part 2

Within Cyrus' ship...

Link and Zelda stared out in horror as Giratina floated where it was. It made no movements, no noise, not even a blink in its eyes. Cyrus felt triumphant as he looked upon the great creature, it now being under his complete control.

Cyrus: Now, nothing can stand in our way!

Vaati: Yes! So, who should we destroy first?

Cyrus: Hmm, Link and Zelda are an obvious choice, but we couldn't destroy them without damaging out ship...

Link: You're not destroying anyone! I'm gonna find the machine you're using to control that beast and destroy it!

Cyrus: Oh, my boy, you don't even realize it, do you? You're standing in the machine!

Link looked confused as he lifted a boot off the ground, but Zelda quickly knew what he meant.

Zelda: Of course, the ship!

Cyrus: Oh yes Princess, all around the ship are different pieces of the red chain, each one being used to control Giratina. Even if by some miracle you found where they were, you'd never be able to get them all back in time before you're destroyed by our troops!

Vaati: And don't forget about me!

Vaati then created a tornado around his legs and flew at Link, ready to destroy him. Link drew his sword and swung it at Vaati and he flew by, but the dark wizard countered this by throwing more wind at Link, knocking him against a nearby wall. Link got back up and sliced at Vaati again, but this once more proved fruitless as he just flew upwards, making Link trip over himself.

Link: Arrgh, I'm getting really tired of this!

Vaati: Really? Because I haven't even broken a sweat!

As Link and Vaati continued their fight, Zelda began to think to herself about how to stop Cyrus. She got an idea, but she seemed worried as it came to her.

Zelda: *whispers* For this to work, it'll require one of us to...

Zelda suddenly steeled her face, deciding that what she needed to do was too important. Suddenly, the ship began to shake around, Zelda realizing that they were on the move once again.

Zelda: What's going on!?

Cyrus: We're moving to our first target, Princess. I figure I'll get your race out of the way by destroying your own home planet!

Link and Zelda: WHAT!?

Zelda and Link looked shocked as they heard Cyrus say this, and to their surprise so did Vaati.

Vaati: Whoah, hey, that's my world too!

Cyrus: Now Vaati, why worry about one paltry planet when the entire universe is at your beck and call? You could take a hundred billion worlds just like that one!

Vaati thought about this to himself, and then just shrugged before begrudgingly accepting what Cyrus said.

Vaati: Arrgh, I guess. I just wish you'd have asked me first...

Link turned to Cyrus and pointed his sword at him, ready to skewer him with it.

Link: I'm not gonna let you destroy my world!

Cyrus: Oh, and what are you going to do about it? I have the beast, I can erase you at any time with his power.

Link: Then why don't you?

Cyrus: Well, for one thing I'd rather not destroy the ground I'm standing on. But there's also the benefit of seeing the look on your face when everything you know is wiped out.

Link: I'm gonna end you!

Link ran at Cyrus, ready to strike the man down, but once more he was caught off guard by Vaati's wind, nearly being blown out of the cargo bay. Link managed to grab onto something just before he fell into space, and then stood back up ready for more.

Vaati: How often must we repeat this? You can't beat my power of winds!

Link: Well, technically it's the Dark Queen's power of winds...

Zelda: Link, I have an idea, but it'll require us to get to the room where the ship is being controlled!

Link: Yeah, what is this idea?

Zelda: Just follow me!

Zelda ran out of the cargo bay, Link following suit. Vaati got ready to chase after them, but Cyrus held him back.

Cyrus: Hang on Vaati, I've got an idea. Perhaps we should show them our beasts' true power...

Vaati: Wait, what was all that about not destroying where you're standing?

Cyrus: I'm not where they're going...

Cyrus grabbed his communicator, and on a small screen showed small dots representing Link and Zelda running through a map of their ship. The map also had several red dots all around it, showing the locations of their chain links.

Cyrus: Just as I thought, they're heading for the control room. I'll just be sure Giratina doesn't hit any of the chain links, and we'll be golden.

Vaati: This still seems kind of reckless...

Elsewhere in the ship...

Link and Zelda ran as fast as they could through the ship, ready to dodge any attacks by space pirates. There seemed to be none of that though, as every hallway seemed completely deserted. Link paid no attention to that though, and decided to ask Zelda a question he had.

Link: Zelda, do you really know your way through this ship?

Zelda: Yes I do. I've studied some schematics of space pirate ships when I spent that time with Professor Hector.

Link: Oh, so THAT's how you knew where the cargo bay would be!

Zelda: Indeed, and I know where we need to go in order to reach the control room. Though something is disturbing me...

Link: What?

Zelda: We're on our way to foil their plans. There should be dozens, maybe hundreds of space pirates trying to stop us. But we haven't seen any...

Link: That is weird. Maybe they're all sleepi-WHOAH!

Link and Zelda quickly stopped in their tracks, as a gigantic beam of white light burst through the wall in front of them! It stopped after a few seconds, and through the hole they saw Giratina staring at them. The holes themselves had no burn-marks or smoke, as if pieces of the ship had just disappeared.

Zelda: Cyrus is insane! Doing this could destroy the ship!

Link: Better the ship than us! Let's go!

Link and Zelda continued to run through the hallway, but more beams of light burst through the ship, with them having to either stop moving or dodge every single one! As they got closer to the control room the beams became bigger and harder to dodge. Soon various wires and gears from within the ship became exposed, and the two also had to evade these.

Link: This is ridiculous! How much more can that bug do!?

Zelda: We're almost there! We must hurry!

Link and Zelda continued on their way, dodging everything that was thrown at them in order to stop the ship's journey to Link's planet...

Back in the cargo bay...

Cyrus became increasingly frustrated as he looked at his communicator, seeing that Link and Zelda still weren't destroyed by Giratina's antimatter beams. He continued to command Giratina to attack with a speaker on the device, while the ship continued to shake with each blast fired. Vaati couldn't keep his balance with all the shaking, and soon he grew frustrated as well.

Vaati: Why aren't those children destroyed yet!?

Cyrus: How do they keep dodging those beams!? I have one of the most powerful beings in the universe under my control, and they're still a thorn in my side!

Vaati: That's it, I'm taking care of this myself!

Vaati pulled his wand and book out from under his cloak, chanted a few words while waving the wand around, and quickly teleported away. Cyrus looked annoyed as Vaati did this, but then gave a sigh.

Cyrus: Whatever. If he wants to risk his life, that's fine. He won't matter soon anyway...

Later, in the control room of the ship...

Link and Zelda ran into the room, looking tired and ragged. Their clothes had many holes in them, showing how they were only able to escape some beams by the skin of their teeth.

Link: Please stop with the beams...

Zelda: Don't worry Link, I doubt Cyrus is insane enough to attack the control room...

As they walked further in, they saw one space pirate working at the controls. It was about to fire on them, but Link quickly ran over and sliced it, the creature falling to the floor dead. The two went over to the controls, and from the window saw their home planet.

Link: Well, this ship got here faster than I thought...

Zelda: Let's see, these controls don't seem too much different from the professor's ship...

Vaati: Step away from there now!

Link and Zelda turned to see Vaati standing there, pointing his wand at them and ready for another fight. And it seemed Link was the same way, as he drew his sword and pointed it at Vaati in a similar manner.

Zelda: Vaati, this is your world too! Don't you care that Cyrus wants to destroy it!?

Vaati: I'm being offered unlimited power! I can do without one world, especially if there's more like you two on it!

Link: Alright Vaati, this is it!

Link ran at Vaati and swung his sword, which Vaati blocked with his wand. Vaati used his wind power to start flying, and then began to cast a bunch of fire spells at Link, who defended with his shield. Link grabbed his bow and shot an arrow at Vaati, hitting him in the knee and causing his to lose his balance. Vaati fell to the floor, and Link ran over and sliced him across the back, causing him to yell in pain.

Vaati: ARRGH, MY BACK!

Link: Take that!

Vaati got back up and ran at Link, knocking him into the controls. The ship's gravity began to be affected, and soon Link and Vaati fell on the wall while Zelda held on to the control console.

Zelda: *whew* That was close!

Down below, Link and Vaati got back up and were ready to continue their duel. Link swung his sword many times, Vaati cast a lot of spells, it seemed like the battle would never end...

In the cargo bay...

Cyrus lay against the wall, rubbing his back to ease the pain from a nasty fall he just had.

Cyrus: Someone must have messed with the gravity controls... ah, there they are!

Cyrus saw Link and Vaati within the control room, Zelda holding onto the console. He noticed that Vaati and Link were at a complete standstill, both pushing at each other with their respective weapons. At this moment, he decided to make his move.

Cyrus: Sorry Vaati, but I really must take care of that brat. I guess I'll find another dark wizard elsewhere...

Cyrus commanded Giratina to fly to that part of the ship, who did so as he charged another antimatter beam...

In the control room...

Link and Vaati continued to push at each other with their weapons, neither willing to back down. During this, Zelda climbed her way to the gravity controls, and was attempting to fix things.

Zelda: I just need to move this switch, and... aha!

Zelda fixed the switch, and soon the gravity was back to normal. Link and Vaati fell back to the floor, just as another beam of antimatter passed through their previous location!

Link: Whoah, we would have been fried!

Vaati: That was where I was standing...

Zelda: Link, outside!

Link looked out the window, and saw Giratina charge another beam of energy, this one aimed right at Link's planet!

Link: Oh no, we're too late!

Zelda: Not if I have anything to say about it!

Zelda then piloted the ship towards Giratina, ramming it right into its mouth as it fired its beam! The antimatter didn't hit Link's planet, as Zelda knocked Giratina's aim off, but it did hit crucial parts of the ship. Suddenly an alarm was going off, and a voice could be heard over the ship.

computer: SHIP SUSTAINING CRITICAL DAMAGE. DETONATION IN 60 SECONDS.

Link: Detonation!? What's that!?

Zelda: It means the ship's gonna explode!

Vaati: Well, he who fights and runs away...

Vaati quickly chanted another spell while waving his wand, and quickly disappeared in a puff of black smoke. Link quickly ran over to Zelda while pulling his ocarina out.

Link: I'll teleport us down to the planet!

Link then played his song, and soon the winds began whipping around them. As they did though, Zelda stepped out of them.

Link: Zelda what are you doing!? I can't teleport you unless you're close to me!

Zelda: Link, even if this ship explodes, the red chain will still exist. It'll just find somewhere else to hide. I have to destroy it once and for all!

Link: Zelda, wait! Come back!

But before Link could grab his friend, he teleported away in a flash of light. Zelda walked over to the hole Giratina created with its last beam, seeing it still floating there.

Zelda: Giratina, hear my plea! This ship has the red chain which is being used to control you! Use all of your willpower to fight that control! Use your antimatter energy to destroy the ship and everything on it!

Giratina began to roar in pain, but soon it began to charge another beam of energy, this one much bigger than the others. Zelda closed her eyes as she awaited what was to come.

Zelda: Link, I hope your dream won't come true...

Back down in Hyrule...

Link appeared in the middle of Hyrule field, panicking as he did. He grabbed his ocarina to try and teleport back, but by then it was too late.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMM!!!

Link looked up, and saw an explosion of space pirate ship and antimatter. Link was horrified at what he saw, and soon tears began to flow from his eyes.

Link: No... Zelda... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Link broke down where he was and began crying and screaming. The sadness, the anger, the fear, it was all too much for him to bear. He just stayed where he was for a long time, doing nothing but crying. Zelda was a dear friend to him since his childhood, and now she was no more...

Elsewhere, in space...

In a small space pirate ship similar to Professor Hector's, Cyrus was piloting his way to another location, looking enraged as he did.

Cyrus: I WAS SO CLOSE! GIRATINA WAS WITHIN MY GRASP, AND NOT ONLY DO I LOSE HIM, BUT THE ENTIRE RED CHAIN I WORKED SO HARD TO CLAIM! ARRGH, I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS!

Vaati: Oh yeah? How about this?

Cyrus turned around and saw Vaati standing right behind him, his wand pointed directly at Cyrus' back. Vaati didn't look pleased to see Cyrus.

Cyrus: Why Vaati, I didn't expect you to-

Vaati: Survive? Yeah, I'd imagine not when you command your beast to kill me!

Cyrus: What? Why Vaati, I was aiming for Link! You can't possibly think I meant to destroy you on purpose!

Cyrus was sweating as he sat in front of the business end of Vaati's wand, while Vaati looked angry, not buying what Cyrus was saying.

Vaati: Your plan has failed. I have no reason to trust you now!

Cyrus: Are you sure? I do have a plan B, you know...

Vaati: What, look for more chain links and control another beast? You said it yourself, the chain was destroyed!

Cyrus: Yes, it was. I may be frustrated that my last three plans have failed, but I have one more idea. You see, the three beasts have one master that is above them all.

Vaati: Oh really, and just who is this beast?

Cyrus: It is a god among gods, the father of the three beasts. It is the great creator himself, Arceus...
