TOP 5 THINGS I WANT TO SEE IN THE ARCHIE COMICS MEGA MAN SERIES

**Hey everyone! Sorry I don’t have the next part of Multi-Part March ready yet, but between a bad cold and getting ready to go on a trip, I unfortunately ran out of time. I promise I’ll have it ready for you next week, but I don’t want to leave you guys completely high and dry, so I wrote up this list for you. Enjoy!**

Hey everyone! So, who doesn’t love Mega Man, right? I know a bunch of you are probably gonna say “Not Capcom,” but please keep in mind, for over 20 years they’ve had at least one new game in this franchise every consecutive year, and often two or three, so I don’t hold anything against them for giving the blue bomber a break for a while. (I DO however hold against them cancelling three games for stupid reasons, but that’s neither here nor there.)

Well, a few years ago the blue bomber came back as a comic series from Archie, the company originally famous for its comedy books starring its titular character. (though nowadays its best-selling book stars a certain blue rodent) The Mega Man books have been nothing but delightful, with action that feels right out of the games, good adaptations of those games while still adding in its own elements, and a large cast of great three-dimensional characters who all try their best to save the day as much as Mega Man. Sadly the series is currently on hiatus (I guess Mega Man needs a break in more ways than one), but they have promised that the series will return, as there are very many more games to adapt from, not just from the classic series. So, when it does return, there are some things I’d like to see them do. I’ve put the five things I want most from them in this list, so grab your Mega-Buster and have an E-Can at the ready, this is the Top 5 things I want to see in Archie’s Mega Man!

#5: The Stardroids

Issue #20 gave us a taste of things to come for Mega Man, and one of those things is the Stardroids, who are powerful robots from space that even a fully charged Mega-Buster shot couldn’t scratch. The manga series Mega Man Gigamix (sequel series to Mega Man Megamix) had its ending storyline about these guys, having them be unstoppable forces of death raining down destruction on the entire Earth, forcing Dr. Light and Dr. Wily to work together to stop this threat, and even having them go into why they give their robots humanoid intelligence. I put this one at the bottom of the list because it would be kind of difficult to top a great story like that, but I would still be curious to see what they could do. Maybe reveal the full backstory of these guys, who built them, where they came from, why they want to invade Earth, and perhaps a team-up of all of Mega Man’s allies to stop them. I can just picture the awesome battle right now…

#4: Quint

Yet another thing from a Game Boy game that was introduced in Issue #20, Quint is basically an evil version of Mega Man from the future. He was originally from Mega Man II on the Game Boy, though you wouldn’t know he was from the future just by playing the game. (heck, I didn’t know his backstory until getting his CD on Mega Man & Bass!) Obviously, this is an idea I would love to see expanded upon. Maybe a look at an alternate timeline where he was caught by Dr. Wily and reprogrammed for evil? Or perhaps he went to Wily willingly, as he had somehow failed in stopping him and saw nothing else to do? The issue where he debuted even had another appearance by him where he says he won’t be Mega Man’s shadow anymore. Perhaps he could be the Mega Man copy from the first game? Whatever they come up with, I would love to see it.

#3: A Spin-Off Series Starring X

In more current issues of the series, we got to see the future era that is the Mega Man X series, which are games I absolutely love. These games too provide a lot of potential for stories, so I think once it returns, X should get his own spin-off book just like the Sonic the Hedgehog comics have Sonic Universe. We could see Sigma’s descent into the most evil force on Earth, we could see Zero having to deal with being the last creation of Dr. Wily, or maybe give some more development to all of the reploids who became mavericks, like Chill Penguin or Storm Eagle. Maybe going maverick could have them legitimately believe that humans deserve to die, making the changes somewhat more subtle than X initially thought? Oh well, I guess we do have Maverick Hunter X on the PSP…

#2: The “Battle Network” Universe

The last issue published before the series’ hiatus gave us hints at other future Mega Man series, from Zero to Legends and even ZX. And yet, in all of this comic’s publication the Battle Network series has never even registered a blip on the radar. They didn’t even give it a cameo in Worlds Unite, a story all about crossovers! If Sonic can have a crossover with another version of himself from Sonic Underground, why can’t Mega Man do anything like that?

So, how would one go about this? Well, obviously Mega Man would have to travel through some kind of dimensional portal, and thus end up in the Battle Network universe. From there, he could probably meet Lan Hikari and learn this world’s history, how science has developed down a different path from his own, and perhaps be shocked to learn that Lan is this world’s Dr. Light’s grandson. (“Hikari” is the Japanese word for light, you know.) Sure, it would be hard for the two Mega Man to fight side by side together since Megaman.EXE is just data, but not impossible. Maybe classic Mega Man could download his consciousness into a computer and then help fight off viruses, or perhaps Megaman.EXE could enter a CopyBot and help classic Mega Man fight off the Robot Masters. Or heck, later episodes of the anime introduce an idea called “Cross Fusion” where a NetNavi and their NetOp fuse into one being. This can only happen in places called “Dimensional Areas,” but remember, classic Mega Man would be from another dimension, so you wouldn’t have to make that big a leap in logic. Someone jack this idea into Archie Comic’s heads, and execute!

But the Number one thing I want to see in the Archie Comic’s Mega Man series is:

#1: Whatever Happened to the Blue Bomber?

Yep, the biggest mystery of the entire Mega Man franchise. In X’s future, all robots were completely gone until he was discovered, and then he was analyzed so that they could all come back under the new name “reploids.” So, what happened? What could result in not only Mega Man’s death, but the death of all robots? The games have never attempted to solve this mystery, and even a fan game I found only gives a possibility for how Zero could have been created. There are of course many theories about this, and even a controversial timeline written by Keiji Inafune around the time of Mega Man Zero’s release, but I think someone needs to actually answer this question once and for all. Maybe have it be an alien virus just like in that timeline, and then once the X timeline comes around it mutates into the Sigma virus. It would be a very heartbreaking story, Mega Man seeing all his friends die one by one, but still a necessary one. We could even end on a splash page of Dr. Light building X! If Archie would have the courage to end the series on this story, I would have so much respect for them. Get on and continue this series, already!

So that’s my list of things I want Archie to do when Mega Man comes back. Are there any you’d personally like to see? Feel free to comment if you do! Until next time, this is mariomaster88, fighting for everlasting peace!
Sorry I don't have the next part of my Doctor Who review up yet, but here's something else for you in the meantime!
